Read: Anchor commits to social impact framework

Anchor, England’s largest provider of specialist housing and care for those in later life, today announced its partnership with the Purpose Health and Social Care Coalition to produce an Impact Report into its work.

In partnership with former Public Health Minister, Rt Hon Anne Milton, and former Education Secretary, Rt Hon Justine Greening, the Impact Report will examine Anchor’s work against a framework of 14 Purpose Goals. These focus on key life stages from early years to adulthood as well as the barriers to people getting on, such as good health and wellbeing, and can help identify the gaps where access to opportunity is limited.

Anchor has a 60-year history of providing services to older people. It provides housing to rent and to buy and more than 100 care homes across almost 1,700 sites and operates in more than 85% of local councils in England.

Anchor is a not-for-profit business and aims to reinvest into its properties and services to build more homes and innovate for the future, creating communities that support its residents. It is also an advocate for them, listening to the concerns of older people and responding to their needs. With more than 9,000 employees, it encourages learning and development in a diverse workforce.

Purpose Health and Social Care Coalition Chair, Rt Hon Anne Milton, said: “Organisations like Anchor can play a key role in our health and social care system for those in later life, offering a range of housing options and care tailored to their level of need. It can help to build healthy, sustainable communities where people can continue to access opportunities so that they can enjoy healthy, fulfilled lives. It is also a leading employer in the care industry, providing training and a wide range of careers for its employees to attract the best talent in the communities it serves.

“With its huge reach, Anchor has the potential to make a real difference to delivering opportunity across the country. I am looking forward to working with the organisation to champion older people and help shape the health and social care agenda they need. With a growing older population, there has never been a more important time to drive positive change.”

Sarah Jones, Chief Executive at Anchor, said: “At Anchor, we want to transform housing and care so everyone can have a home where they love living in later life. That clarity of purpose binds us together and is why many people chose to work for us in a wide variety of roles across the country. We’re really pleased to be working with the Purpose Coalition to help us understand the impact we have in the communities we serve and ensure we make a really positive difference.”
